March 1, 2010: March is Oral Health Awareness Month at Commonwealth Vet!
Maintaining a healthy mouth is as important for pets as it is for people. Periodontal disease and gingivitis can cause significant pain and leave your pet vulnerable to infection, not to mention bad breath, difficulty chewing and a variety of other problems. As your pet ages, the risk of serious health issues increases dramatically. If your doctor has advised you to consider a professional cleaning for your pet’s teeth, or if your pet has bad breath, call us at 617-332-7030. We’d be happy to answer any questions you may have and schedule your appointment.

May 10, 2009: Response to Recent Television Report Regarding Flea and Tick Preventatives
Last week, WCVB broadcast a news report concerning adverse reactions to spot-on (topical) flea and tick prevention medications. Many over-the-counter medications, such as the Sergeant’s Sentrypro XFC Flea and Tick Squeeze-on profiled by the news report, have ingredients that are not used in veterinarian-recommended products. The Commonwealth Veterinary Hospital recommends Merial’s Frontline Plus, Bayer’s K9 Advantix and Pfizer’s Revolution for guarding against fleas and ticks. Each is a long-established formula made by a major manufacturers. Extensive clinical research and long experience have shown them to be very safe and we continue to recommend them wholeheartedly. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us by phone at 617-332-7030 or by e-mail at staff@commonwealthvet.com.
