Diagnostic Imaging
Just as in human medicine, sometimes our doctors must look beneath the skin to diagnose the problem. Our onsite diagnostic imaging capabilities include:
Digital Radiology
Commonwealth Veterinary Hospital is pleased to be the owner of modern digital veterinary X-ray equipment. Digital technology has numerous advantages over traditional x-rays. The process is painless and the exposure time is very short. There is no delay for film development. Traditional x-rays usually required that an animal be sedated so that they were still long enough to capture the image. With digital X-ray equipment, sedation is often unnecessary, saving you time and money.
In addition to being faster and easier on your pet, the digital equipment provides us with a level of detail that traditional technology cannot match, allowing for more complete and accurate diagnoses. Our veterinarians can enhance specific sections of the x-ray images, providing us with unsurpassed detail on isolated areas. We can change the contrast ratios to make identifying problem spots easier and reverse colors to check for bone cracks, all at the click of a mouse. With a few more clicks, your veterinarian can import the images to the computers in our exam rooms and show you exactly what he or she saw.
Digital Dental Radiology
Our digital radiology suite includes equipment suitable for use in dentistry. This means that all the advantages of digital X-rays are available when your veterinarian evaluates your pet’s dental health.
Handheld Radiology
At Commonwealth Veterinary Hospital, we also have a handheld X-ray emitter suitable for use on birds and other exotic animals that cannot make use of our regular radiology suite. This handheld device can also be used on the extremities of dogs and cats in the exam rooms themselves. You can be there to soothe your pet as we gather the information we need to keep them healthy and happy.
Veterinary Ultrasound
CVH also has its own suite of veterinary ultrasound equipment. This pain free, non-stressful procedure provides us with a real-time image of your pet’s internal systems and assists us in diagnosing abdominal issues, urinary and cardiac conditions, and many other problems.
We can also provide clients with more advanced diagnostics through our relationship with Dr. Josh Gidlewski. Board-certified in both internal medicine and cardiology, Dr. Gidlewski brings his advanced training and advanced equipment to our hospital every Tuesday. By bringing the specialist to the hospital, we allow your regular veterinarian to be present during the procedure, relating information regarding your pet's current condition and medical history to Dr. Gidlewski and making sure every possible angle is covered. Both doctors have the most complete information possible as they break down the results and diagnose your pet, a dynamic that would not be possible if we were to refer patients to an outside ultrasound clinic.
