Chronic ear infections, in addition to being very painful, can be a sign of a deeper problem. If your pet suffers from recurrent ear infections, we can use our lab to run a variety of tests to find the underlying cause. Ear cytologies allow us to determine if the infection is bacterial or yeast-based while ear cultures and sensitivities allow us to isolate the specific species present. This information allows us to tailor your pet’s treatment with the medication needed to eliminate the specific cause of the infection.
Often, ear infections are not the result of a direct infection but are the result of allergies. When dealing with chronic ear infections, we may test for these as well and can treat them with medication or hypoallergenic trials.
