Laboratory Services
We offer a variety of in-house laboratory services to help diagnose your pet's health issues as quickly as possible. All of our lab equipment is brand-new and state-of-the-art. The technology benefits your pet by allowing us to work with a speed and precision not previously possible. We offer testing for the following:
- Blood.
Commonwealth Veterinary Hospital can run a variety of blood tests in-house. These include complete blood counts, chemistry profiles, liver, kidney and thyroid screens, pre-anesthetic blood profiles and emergency chemistry profiles, all of which can be completed in twenty minutes or less. - Skin.
Skin testing helps diagnose allergies and a variety of parasitic infections. - Cytology.
Cytology tests review tissue samples and are mainly used to diagnose common ear infections. We also investigate samples from lumps and bumps to check for cancer. - Urine.
Urine screenings help diagnose a variety of conditions, but are especially useful in checking for the signs of urinary tract infections, kidney failure and diabetes. - Fecal.
Fecal tests allow us to confirm the presence of intestinal parasites, including giardia and coccidian.
Most lab work not done on site is sent to Antech Diagnostics. Antech is the nation's largest network of veterinary laboratories. They work with more than 12,000 veterinary hospitals, zoos and government institutions. The local lab picks up from CVH twice a day, helping to ensure fast turnaround. Depending on the test, we have the results back as early as the next day.
