Microchip Technology
Every day, a beloved family pet is lost. Tragically, most never make it back home, often because their owners cannot be identified when they are found. The MicroChip is the professional way to identify your pet and is proven safe and effective. A tiny microchip containing a personal identification number distinguishes your pet as a special member of your family. The microchip is small enough to be injected under your pet's skin with an ordinary hypodermic needle. Once there, it remains safely in place for the rest of your pet's life and causes no discomfort. This inexpensive procedure can be done anytime to pets of any age. Because collars can come off if your pet gets lost, Commonwealth Veterinary Hospital encourages all pet owners to have a MicroChip implanted in their companions. Knowing that many of our clients take their animal companions abroad with them, we recently upgraded to the next generation of MicroChip. Called the WorldChip, it makes use of a new global standard that can be read by scanners worldwide.
If you need an animal checked for a microchip tag, our hospital scanners can read both WorldChips and any other technology presently in use.
