Veterinary Surgery

Our veterinarians are trained in the latest techniques should your pet require a surgical procedure. We offer a full range of soft tissue surgeries, which include routine spays and neuters, tumor removal and biopsies. We are also proficient in more advanced procedures, such as periodontal surgery and gastrointestinal obstruction removal. For specialty surgical procedures, we have board-certified veterinary surgeons that perform many procedures on-site. This allows your pet to be in a more familiar, comfortable environment, and allows your CVH doctor to oversee the process. Commonwealth Veterinary Hospital also offers Laser Surgery on some procedures, which can provide your pet with many advantages, including less swelling, faster healing and reduced pain. Ask your doctor for more information.
We are as serious about your pet's surgical needs as your own doctor would be about yours. Some of the ways we keep your pet safe and comfortable include:

Anesthesia
At Commonwealth Veterinary Hospital, we take great care to make sure your pet is anesthetized safely and for the minimum amount of time necessary for his or her surgery. We have a wide variety of anesthetics available and tailor them to your pet’s specific conditions and needs, such as age and preexisting medical conditions.

EKG, Pulse Oximetry and Blood pressure monitoring
Our EKG, Pulse Oximetry and blood pressure monitoring equipment helps keep your pet safe during surgery. It enables continuous oversight of your pet's heart rate and vital signs and provides immediate warnings if there is a complication. This information also allows us to better determine how well your pet is responding both to the anesthesia and to the other medications that might be used during surgical procedures.

Pain Management
At Commonwealth Veterinary Hospital, we are committed to ensuring that your pet's pain is kept to a minimum. We utilize pain management strategies that include oral and injectable medications prior to, during, and after surgery.
